Shifting Sand

Shifting sand,
oh I built my house on shifting sand;
I was in the sight of land,
but I built my house on shifting sand

Every prophet I heard
took me firmly by the hand
… to shifting sand

There’s a prophet of earth
and a prophet of trees,
a prophet of science
who thinks he really sees

a prophet of women
and prophets of race,
apostles all
of a worldly grace

Shifting sand,
oh I built my house on shifting sand;
I was in the sight of land,
but I built my house on shifting sand

Every prophet I heard
took me firmly by the hand
… to shifting sand

There’s a prophet of peace
and a prophet of war
a seller of sex,
prophet of the whore

there’s a prophet of greed
and a seer of faith
apostles all
of a worldly grace

Shifting sand
is everything that you’ve heard
which contradicts
God’s Holy Word

and shifting sands
are all of those things
that you covet
which idolatry brings

There’s only one rock,
and only one truth,
one Spirit only
who lives inside of you

There’s just one door,
one shepherd of the sheep;
His name is Jesus
and your soul He’ll keep,
from shifting sand

Shifting sand,
oh I built my house on shifting sand;
I was in the sight of land,
but I built my house on shifting sand

Every prophet I heard
took me firmly by the hand
… to shifting sand
