Wisdom

Posted on 16 August 2009

“Watch daily at my gates
and wait beside my door
listen with attention
expecting ever more”

For wisdom calls in silence
yet you can hear her sound
if you will still your thinking
and till your fallow ground

“To you, O men, I speak,”
she cries to youth and man;
“O simple ones, learn wisdom
and understand God’s plan.

“Seek me instead of riches,
my jewels instead of pearls,
my emerald signs of wisdom,
not pleasures of this world.”

Wisdom dwells with knowledge
and fears the one true LORD;
she hates all plans of evil
against God’s holy Word.

“I hate all who strut so proudly
in arrogance and pride;
I despise the lying speech
in which man tries to hide.

“By wisdom kings will rule,
decreeing all that’s just;
by my ways princes govern
with peace and all goodness.

“I walk the Halls of Justice
in God’s eternal light;
my fruit excels all richness;
my words are always right.”

Though wisdom remains silent,
listen for her call;
her voice comes o’er the whirlwind,
singing, “Come, each one, and all.”

(From Proverbs 8, ESV)
