Schizophrenic
Posted on 12 August 2009
The word schizophrenic is composed of two words, schizo and phrenic. Schizo means “split” or “divided.” Phren means “mind.” Thus schizophrenic means to have a split or divided mind. James 1:8 says, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.” The word translated “double-minded” here literally means “two souled.” The soul includes a man’s mind, will, and emotions. In James’ view, a “doubled-minded” man is one who lacks wisdom and does not walk by faith in the one true God. Today we would call a “double-minded” man schizophrenic or bipolar if we wanted to doubt his sanity and put him on drugs to “treat” his ailment. Society labels people as schizophrenic or bipolar very selectively because that label really applies to most of the public. The labelers do not want to include themselves. Let’s consider some examples.
I often take walks in State parks and other natural areas of Missouri. You can well imagine that such parks are managed by conservation officials who would be considered “green” by the Democrat Party and the liberal left. Missouri itself now has a democrat governor. Yet, just last week I took a walk at one of our most beautiful parks, Hawn State Park in St. Genevieve County. Two state park workers started using gas-powered blowers to blow a few leaves out of the picnic area as we started walking! The blast of the motors totally ruined the natural atmosphere. And the green house gases! Oh my! What ever happened to using a rake to move a few leaves? So, the people who run these “natural” programs say they are “green” and, of course, support all legislative efforts to cut green house gases, and yet move a few leaves with a gas-powered blower. They are double-minded, schizophrenic.
Then there is the new law in St. Louis, Missouri to ban smoking at almost all bars and restaurants. Why? They don’t want anyone to be “harmed” by second-hand smoke. Yet these same liberal legislators who implemented the law do everything they can to protect and promote the homosexual lifestyle which is known for its rampant disease, not the least of which is the dread disease AIDS. Do you think they considered enacting any laws that would protect the public from these diseases? Why not? They are double-minded, schizophrenic.
And today we have a new blog from a leading liberal writer named Camille Paglia which appears on her salon.com page. She begins by saying, “Buyer’s remorse? Not me. At the North American summit in Guadalajara this week, President Obama resumed the role he is best at — representing the U.S. with dignity and authority abroad. This is why I, for one, voted for Obama and continue to support him. The damage done to U.S. prestige by the feckless, buffoonish George W. Bush will take years to repair. Obama has barely begun the crucial mission that he was elected to do.”
Then, halfway through her article, she writes, “There is plenty of blame to go around. Obama’s aggressive endorsement of a healthcare plan that does not even exist yet, except in five competing, fluctuating drafts, makes Washington seem like Cloud Cuckoo Land. The president is promoting the most colossal, brazen bait-and-switch operation since the Bush administration snookered the country into invading Iraq with apocalyptic visions of mushroom clouds over American cities.
“You can keep your doctor; you can keep your insurance, if you’re happy with it, Obama keeps assuring us in soothing, lullaby tones. Oh, really?”
How can she say such scathing things about this President, yet have no “buyer’s remorse?” She is double-minded, schizophrenic.
The truth of the matter is this, all people who do not practice righteousness by consciously obeying God’s commands as revealed through his Word and repenting when they fail will, by definition, be schizophrenic. There is no middle ground. You either travel the narrow way “unto” Christ, or you don’t. When you don’t, you suffer the results of your double-mindedness, and so do the rest of us. Mystery Babylon defines herself by her schizophrenia. Come out of her now.

I appreciate what you are trying to say, but I AM schizophenic it is a real illness and has nothing to do with my faith in the Lord – Jesus is my Saviour and having a psychotic illness will never change that. Please do not belittle the sufferering us people with sz go through by saying we are just weak in faith.
If I have misunderstoof you, please correct me
God bless you

Mim,
I think you have misunderstood my writing. I was not dealing with individual people who have been labeled “schizophrenic” by the medical profession. Each such person has to be dealt with on a case by case basis. I think that in some instances people who are labeled “schizophrenic” or “multiple personality disorder” are actually demon possessed. Personally, though, I have never exorcised a demon and I have never seen it done. Until God gives us supernatural power and faith to heal the sick and cast out devils, about the only thing we can do is “take our medication.” But, this is a sad state to remain in and I hope it changes soon.
I pray that the Lord will bless you in your illness and bring healing to you quickly.
Schizophrenia is a nest of demons….it springs forth from a root of bitterness, a root of rejection and a root of rebellion………
Wow I feel that this whole page was a little schizophrenic in ways for the fact that there is judging going on. You talk about God then place judgment on others that’s sooo double minded don’t you think? I’m not saying your wrong because I truly believe to each his own. AIDS is a disease that came from a failed science project basically it has nothing to do with the gay community using it’s just used to focus negativity on a misunderstood group of people. As far as healing powers Jesus practiced healing we could all do the same, it is through our faith that we fail we doubt too much and focus too much on the problem rather than the solution. We are all children of God we can all do what Jesus did. I understand where your faith lies but really those things are from what PEOPLE told you God said thousands of years ago and look at the world today so many still suffering from spiritual malady. There should be some law made to reunite everyone who has been torn apart by religion and biggotry. Listen to your heart and God will tell you everything that is true for every new moment and it has not a thing to do with a yesterday we can’t even trace our ancestors back to.
Lee,
I disagree with most of what you have written. I do agree that God will speak to each of our hearts. The problem is that none of us can hear God perfectly yet. Thus none of us can know “everything that is true for every new moment” simply by “hearing.” This is why God gave us his written word. Although our flesh (bodies) tend toward sin, we can decide to obey God and walk according to his word. People who reject God’s word end up accepting every conceivable sin in the name of tolerance. Such people are fools. This is what the Word of God calls them. The Word also says that the spiritual man judges all things. A man can only judge if he knows what truth is. You don’t yet know what (who) truth is, and so you are right in the sense that YOU cannot judge. But, if you continue seeking, you will find him, and begin to learn the truth so that you too can one day judge all things.
