I wish I could play like this (but I keep trying!)

Jacob was a man like you and me, full of the failures of the flesh. But, he continued to seek God throughout his life until God renamed him “Israel,” or “God rules.” He had to learn that God rules all things, not Jacob himself. Likewise do we have to learn this same lesson. Friends, let us come into agreement with Jesus and his Father. Let us seek to do only that which we see our Father doing.

The Christian life is the life of being made into God’s image. This, unfortunately, is still a mystery, and few Christians have understood it. John explains this mystery simply as follows:

2 Beloved, we are (A)God’s children (B)now, and what we will be (C)has not yet appeared; but we know that (D)when he appears[a] (E)we shall be like him, because (F)we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who (G)thus hopes in him (H)purifies himself as he is pure. (1 John 3:2-3)

Time is speeding up, but life in Jesus is evermore.

An ancient question
stirs its aged head,
shouts into the minds of men
as one who won’t stay dead

“What is truth,” he asks us
and really wants to know,
but fools speak with old cliches
and never of their own

“Truth is what they tell you
from pulpits rimmed in gold
standing tall in churches,
or from books so moldy-old

“Yes, truth is what they tell you
in all the nightly news,
Good is going to war,” they say,
“It’s what the people choose!”

But truth, I think, is different,
wearing other clothes;
truth shows himself as justice
for love is all he knows

“What is truth?” they asked Him
as they gave Him to His foes;
then Truth submitted to their cross
that mercy could disclose.
